1. - Watercolors are FAST. They dry fast and you can finish a painting within one day. Given that you learn with every finished painting, you learn fast!

2. - Watercolors don't stink. No dangerous chemical fumes, no headaches, usable around little children. Isn't that a wonderful reason!

3. - Watercolors are easy to clean. You don't make a lot of mess, and if you do, what water fouled, water will clean.

4. - There is no need for white paints. All the lightness is already given by your paper.

5. - Watercolors are practical to use outdoors. All your tools will fit into a small pocket.

6. - Watercolors are RELAXING. It must be the flooding, but whenever working with water and brush, your mind is set on ease.

7. - Watercolors bring transparent, delicate and ethereal results. Sometimes even a few well-lead brush strokes deliver sightly accomplishment.

8. - Watercolors are DIVERSE. They can be used in many very different ways and are easy to use with other media.

9. - Watercolors are CHALLENGING. You don't need to be afraid that during painting there will be no need for your brain :D

THANKK YOU FOR THIS, I adore watercolors because of how practical they are to use! Easy to clean, BUT you can save your palette of awesome colors for the next time you paint, because add water, they become paint again! 8D
i have aves not washed my palette in a year :iconmanlytearsplz:

and nd for me, I make a lot of mistakes, but watercolor, to an extent, can be corrected by adding water and sopping it up again c:

and they are so nice to make awesome color blends and gradients!

wattercolours for me aren't relaxing at all.. they stress me too much because if you get some spots too dark you can't fix them with white(that's why i prefer acril rather than wattercolours often), but un second thought.. like this journal says: Watercolors are easy to clean. You don't make a lot of mess, and if you do, what water fouled, water will clean. Also I agree that Watercolors don't stink ^^ and yes watercolors are challenging indeed! but that's makes it special and magic, it helps us to create a amazing works! ^^

Many people say that painting with watercolors is hard, but i find it really easy! One of my preferred ways to paint, definitely :)

I would argue that it is hard because it is so easy to make fatal mistakes. But also, that it makes it fun and challenging, and gives the artist an air of competence. I definitely prefer watercolours to any other traditional medium.

I agree with all those reasons.
Watercolors are my favorite traditional media. They're fantastic to work with. Oh how I miss painting with those!
This was a really strong motivation for me to use them again. : )

Watercolours are best for small spaces, no studio etc - you just need one table, you can even paint without table. Watercolours are perfectly portable and even if you buy expensive art watercolours, if you work on small scale, you can use them long time - that is why I prefer watercolours in pans/ half-pans.
Watercolours are fun.
Ten minutes work with them give me more relax than anything else.

I love watercolours, but the truth is you NEED OUALITY PAINTS AND QUALITY PAPER - even person who does not know anything about watercolours can see the difference very clearly.

You know I started to play with watercolours long after school. We did lot of different techniques, but not watercolours, only on few ocassions. Only now I realised, how complex is this media and I love them more and more.

Thank you so much for including my painting among so many beautiful ones. I'm honored.

Might I add that you can apply watercolors in layers, so that, if you don't like the initial result, or color, you can change it by applying layers on top. :iconrbheartplz:

Watercolors have always been such a headache for me because I am such a control freak and watercolors.. well.. they like to have a mind of their own. I very much appreciate water color paintings but when it comes to painting myself I prefer to stick to acrylic paints so I don't find myself yelling and screaming and throwing my paintbrushes across the room.

Just try first dry on dry, hot pressed smooth paper, that makes me mad :) it could work for you, you have to control everything on that type of paper.

Oh, I've tried different types of papers, both dry and wet and they all just give me headaches. I'm just much more comfortable with acrylic paint.

Poor brushes!! I'd adopt any mistreated brushes that would be forced to bear the consequences of artist's temperament :D

Very recognizable its a bit of yin and yang. On the one hand its very relaxing to do but on the other hand it can be very frustrating when it does not work out the way you wanted it to be...but hey sometimes that leads to surprising things :-)

Nice journal!

so true!

"6. - Watercolors are RELAXING."
the only one I disagree with whole my heart XD watercolors require so much patience and care, if something gets spoiled it's difficult to correct it so I get sometimes very nervous while painting, but maybe that's just me :D
